I cannot possibly convey my excitement over the announcement of Diablo 3. Blizzard has also confirmed this will be released simultaneously for the Mac. If you haven’t already, please do yourself a favor and watch the gameplay video.

Chainlove.com: A single-item store for cyclists

I stumbled across this site in my del.icio.us feed this morning and had to share it. First of all, if you haven’t checked out Woot, go right now and take a look. Woot offers a single (usually tech-related) item each day at a ridiculous price. Now we have Chainlove.com which does the same thing but for cycling gear! Awesome!

Pop Rocks trivia

I just found this comment posted about Pop Rocks

Pop rocks are awesome for a number of reasons. These reasons are as follows:

1: When you build up a lot of saliva behind your bottom teeth and dump a pack of pop rocks in there, the occasional pop rock pops so hard that it knocks another pop rock out. like your mouth was some kinda volcano

Hilarity in music

A single, hilarious band inspired my open letter to indie musicians.

An open letter to indie musicians 2

Dear indie musicians,

Yes, I am part of the Napster generation. I download music, but there is good news–I also buy music. I will not give money to a label who will give some of that money to the RIAA. I will not finance lawsuits against people who are not content buying music blindly having not heard it. I am not content financing an organization who claims to initiate legal action on behalf of musicians when, in fact, the musicians do not see any of the proceeds resulting from these lawsuits. More CS bullshit. This time it’s from Razer. 1

My luck with any type of customer service has evidently run out. Here’s the backstory:

I got a Razer Deathadder mouse. I’ve used it and love it. I tried to upgrade to the latest driver. After the upgrade, the mouse would not work. The mouse won’t even work connected to another computer. I keep getting “USB device not recognized.” I called customer service and was told I had destroyed my mouse by not uninstalling the previous driver before upgrading — a little strange, but they gave me an RMA so I was OK with it. I send the mouse in, wait a few weeks, and a brand new mouse arrives for me.

I was about to start unpacking the mouse, but I figured I should uninstall my drivers and get the new ones installed before I hook the mouse up. I’m running Vista so I went to “Programs and Features.” (That’s the new “Add/remove” in case you are wondering.) I selected the Deathadder and clicked remove—nothing. I restarted my computer and tried again—still nothing. So, I call Razer support. Read more »

Escape from the gates of Sprint customer service hell

If you aren’t interested in long, convoluted rants by a former customer who has the nerve to expect service on the $400 product he has recently purchased, you may want to pass this post up.

I ordered an HTC Mogul from Sprint a few days ago. I was really excited about having a smart phone. I believed it would make my life easier in a lot of ways. It did make it easier in some, and it was pretty cool. My Mogul however was cursed with a drinking problem. I charged the Mogul for a night then took him off the charger to go to work. After a 40 minute commute with a couple of short calls, his battery was drained to 80%. Throughout the eight-hour work day, he was charged for approximately three hours on the USB charger. By the end of the day, he was at only 70% battery remaining.

Discovering Music

Just a few years ago before my life got a lot more complex, I loved discovering new musicians. I loved the feeling of finding a new artist. It almost feels as though they are your own when you discover them. I’ve not discovered much new music in the last three years. I used to find out about cool bands from Punk Planet (which is no longer published), 75 minutes (which is also gone), and Delusions of Adequacy (which is still cool but not perfect). If Delusions of Adequacy would allow me to view a list of all their reviews sorted chronologically rather than alphabetically it might be all I would need. Alas, it does not. Where online to people find new music? It is important to me that the music is recorded outside the confines of a major label. (See previous post.) I’m checking out Last.fm again, but I’m concerned about the link to a major media conglomerate (CBS?). Anyone have any suggestions?

Entertainment Alternatives 2

Many people find one of the most frightening aspects of ditching TV is what to do with all that extra free time. I have compiled a list of possibilities to give comfort to those thinking of taking the plunge. Read more »

Resurrect: 7 Tips For Returning to WoW 4

I recently decided to give World of Warcraft another shot after a two-year hiatus. I liked it before, but a number of circumstances prevented me from playing. It took a little while to get acclimated again. In fact, I’m still nowhere near where I was when I left although this is only my third day back. Here’s what I’ve learned about coming back to the game: Read more »
